Have you applied for a variety of jobs that your qualified for and have not received any interview request? Since the Pandemic started, a lot of people are now working from the comforts of their own homes. This has been a game changer. It saves on long commutes, people are able to spend more time with their families and it’s a very convenient and ideal work environment. 

Most Military families have to relocate every 2-5 years. Sometimes that means we have to leave our jobs and find one at the new duty station. Work from home jobs can be transferred to other states. Of course your not guaranteed to transfer your job just because it’s work from home. There is still a high possibility that you could depending on which state your moving to. 

Most of the work from home jobs I’ve seen do not offer employment to people that live in California but I’ve also saw some jobs list that they will hire a military spouse in California if the Service Members home of record is one of the states that they hire in.

I’ve gathered a small list of companies that are always hiring for work from home positions. I’ve worked at a few of these companies in the past and really enjoyed the work schedule, the pay and the relaxed job responsibilities. 

Some of these companies have open availability for call center positions on a regular basis. The more advanced positions fill faster. You can apply for jobs that are phone based and jobs that are email and chat based. 

If your like myself and prefer a job that does not require you to be on the phone all day then only apply for positions that interest you. Not all positions are call center/customer service positions. Do your research and apply for jobs that your interested in.

I will only link the companies career website and not actual positions. You will have to search to see which positions are available. I do recommend that you type in remote as one of the search options to narrow down the search on some of these websites.

Some of the positions have specific locations that they hire in. Some positions will only specify the locations that they are NOT hiring in. So if you live in Florida and the remote position says it’s based In Oregon but they do not hire in California, Alaska and Hawaii, then you can apply because your state would be one that they are willing to hire in.

Do not just assume you don’t qualify because the position says it’s based in Oregon. You do not need to live in the state that the position is advertised for, UNLESS the job post specified that they are only hiring local employees that reside in a specific state. Since these are virtual positions, most employers are flexible when it comes to your location.

I have been using the Target App for years but this past year I\"ve been using their drive up service. Curbside pickup has become the new thing due to the current Pandemic but the stores should have always offered this service. When you have a child that\"s in a car seat or even multiple small children,  it\"s a hassle to get out of the car to grab one or two items. It\"s so convenient when i can just jump in the car and run down the street to pickup my items really quick. No long lines, no contact and no waiting.  

I\"ve purchased a variety of items from Target Drive Up such as furniture (yes, I\"ve purchased a chair, table, lamps and a dresser), clothes, personal hygiene items, snacks, fresh fruit, vegetables and meat. There\"s no minimum purchase required and if the item is no longer in stock when they get your order ready, then you will be refunded for that item. The items are guaranteed to be ready within 2 hours. Its typically ready sooner than that. 

You drive up, park in the designated Drive Up area that is marked with large signs. Then and the app notifies the store that you are outside. You can then select what type of car you are in and what color the car is. They will bring your order to the car and hand it to you, place it in the backseat or in the trunk. Whichever works best for you. It\"s so convenient and I use it at least twice a week. I also tell everyone else about it. They need to offer a referral program like Walmart does. LOL

The Pandemic has had a lot of us stuck in the house. My family enjoys being outdoor while keeping our distance from others. What better place to go than the local Zoo. It's outside and there's a ton of space. Some Zoos allow you to bring your own food and drinks as well. Jacksonville Zoo is one of them. This is a plus because it saves money and it's one less person to interact with.

The Jacksonville zoo has some great exhibits. We are members and we go at least once a month. The membership for a family was $145 plus they gave a military discount a well. I do not recall how much that was. Maybe about $10 off. Due to social distancing, you have to Make a reservation in advance. You can do this online or you can do it when you arrive at the zoo as well. Online would be faster and it would guarantee your admittance to the zoo. If you wait till you get to the zoo, they could be at capacity.

During this visit we decided to purchase the total experience wristband for $8 per person. It includes 4d Theater, unlimited train, unlimited carousel rides and animal feedings. 

Due to staffing, the train ride was departing every 30 minutes instead of every 15 minutes. My son loves the narrated train ride. They left every other row of seats empty and cleaned the rows that were sat in after people exited the train. It takes an extra few minutes but it's worth the wait. They are trying to keep everything sanitized and they did a great job at that.

We decided to only feed one animal and it was the Giraffe. Luckily the zoo was empty and there was literally no line so we were able to enjoy feeding the giraffes while learning about them as well. This was a one of a kind experience.

You will most likely limit your options as far as dates, if you wait till the last minute.

You can get the process done by your self. All you have to do is go to www.move.mil. First step is to create an account. Next step is to start an application for a move. Once the application is submitted you will receive an email within a few days letting you know which transportation company will move your items for you. 

Once you are assigned a transportation company, that company will contact you to do a pre-move survey. This consist of the either coming out to your house to inspect how much stuff will be moved. Due to Covid-19 they have been doing a live video chat so that they can see how much stuff is in your house. This is how they know how much supplies should be sent with the packers to pack your house up.

Once the movers arrive to your new location to deliver your household goods, you have the option to request a full unpack. We have requested this for the last 3 PCS moves. It consist of the movers emptying all of the boxes and placing the items on a hard surface, i.e. table, counter, desk, bed or floor. They will also take all the empty boxes and packing paper with them. The full unpack helps tremendously. That's one less task that you have to think about and it also allows you to see everything and put it in its proper place easily. 
If you decide that you do not want them to unpack everything you can request that they only unpack certain boxes or you can ask for them to not open any boxes. Once the movers leave, they DO NOT have to come back and pick up your empty boxes and packing supplies. They actually have you sign a waiver with this statement on it before they leave.

We just relocated from California to Florida. Taking a cross country road trip in the middle of a pandemic was very scary. We were coming from a state that was in lockdown status. The states that we went through were kind of open.  We decided to stick to our California rules and grab food to go and eat in the car or in our hotel rooms. We also decided to still practice social distancing and used our hand sanitizer when we stopped for breaks. Overall things seemed normal but the reality was, we are living in a scary time. People are scared and worried. 

Life in Florida seems regular compared to where we came from.  It actually doesn’t seem like there’s a pandemic at all. The grocery stores were not low on items and we are able to get sanitizer and supplies on a regular basis out here. It’s crazy what can change when you drive 2500 miles.

The saddest part that comes with moving is leaving your friends behind. We spent more time with them than we did with Family. They became apart of my family and it hurt to have to leave them. Especially knowing that we have to start over in Florida and hope that we are able to meet great people to spend the next three years with.

Covid 19 has been the first Pandemic that has affected me in my 35 years on this earth. I literally turned 35 a few weeks after the stay home order was announced in California. We celebrated my Birthday safe in the comforts of our own home.

This time has allowed us to be able to spend more time in the house as a family. I have loved this, being that my Husband came home from a 10 month deployment at the end of January. Hes currently only working once a week due to Covid-19.

We are blessed that he has the job that he does and hes still receiving a full paycheck. Some other families have been off work because their employer had to close due to the Pandemic. Which has in turn caused some hardship.

The only issue that we experienced was the lack of groceries and supplies available at our local stores. I was able to purchase supplies online at target.com. Instead of usually purchasing groceries from the chain grocery stores, I started shopping at the local community markets. They have had everything we've needed. We are surviving and wanting for nothing!

I normally stock up on tissue, paper towels and laundry detergent. So I havent needed to purchase any of this since the stay at home order went into effect back in mid March. I live in a tight knit military community and we have been sharing and trading items with neighbors to help each other out as well. 

Most days we go outside and walk around our neighborhood while practicing social distancing. We have to get fresh air and vitamin or else we will go stir crazy In here. We are so use to be outside so I'm glad they are allowing us to walk around outside. It gives us a slight feeling of normalcy for those few minutes that we are out.

If you are experiencing hardship due to covid 19, call 2-1-1 and find some local free food sites where they are giving away groceries with no questions asked. Local schools are also providing kids with free lunches daily. Where I'm at, it's no questions asked so make sure you look online to see if theres rules or regulations for your local school lunch sites.

Living through a Pandemic - Covid-19

Covid 19 has been the first Pandemic that has affected me in my 35 years on this earth. I literally turned 35 a few weeks after the stay home order was announced in California. We celebrated my Birthday safe in the comforts of our own home.

This time has allowed us to be able to spend more time in the house as a family. I have loved this, being that my Husband came home from a 10 month deployment at the end of January. Hes currently only working once a week due to Covid-19.

We are blessed that he has the job that he does and hes still receiving a full paycheck. Some other families have been off work because their employer had to close due to the Pandemic. Which has in turn caused some hardship.

My Husband was Deployed for 10 months. He was originally scheduled to be deployed for 7 months. This was a big deal for us because he hasn't deployed since 2011. Back then we didnt have any kids. This time around we had a 5 year old.

We were lucky enough to be stationed in  my hometown during this deployment. Therefore I had family nearby. It's still not the same as having my spouse with me. I was still excited about being able to spend some time with my family these past 10 months.

We moved to San diego because of my husband's ship. They were changing homeports from Norfolk, Va to San Diego, CA. I havent lived here since 2011 so it still kind of felt like a big PCS move for me. I guess if I was moving in with family then it might have felt like I was moving home. Lol. I dont want to live with anybody so that's not an option. Even though it would have allowed me to save a ton of money.

We ended up moving into Military Housing and it was the best decision for us. I was surround by great people that provided me with an awesome support system. They have all been through a deployment while raising children. 

If your going through a deployment, I would suggest building a strong support system with other military spouses in similar situations. You can depend on one another and help guide each other.

Boomers is a local San Diego staple. I grew up going here for fun and for Birthday parties. They have water bumper boats, go carts, miniature golf, carnival rides and arcade games. There's something for everyone at Boomers.

I purchased us some annual passes to Boomers online. They were running a special for $44.99/pass, when you purchase three or more passes. If your purchasing one or two passes then they are $48.99/pass. These are the online prices. The passes will cost a few dollars more if you purchase them in person.

The passes are good from now until December 31, 2020. They can be used at both the San Diego and  El Cajon locations. The discounted price is cheaper than the cost of a one day pass. I've taken my son twice this month already.

We purchased a drink cup that comes with unlimited refills for $20. We've filled the cup up twice at both visits. I would say that we've already gotten our money worth for the membership and the cup. First Week of Kindergarten

My Cayden has officially started Kindergarden and he is loving it! He jumped right in with the new school, new friends and new routine. There's a few kids from his preschool attending the same Elementary school, so that helped make him comfortable.

He's looking forward to the school projects and activities and i'm ready for all the homework assignments and projects. lol. I'm debating on volunteering and joining the PTA. We took a two hour Harbor Cruise on the Hornblower Cruise ship. We were able to grab enough seats and a table outside on the 2nd deck of the 3 deck ship. It was hot but the view was lovely. They had two small snack bars on board that also included adult beverages. The kids were able to enjoy some snacks as well as us adults! LOL Only thing missing from this cruise was my Husband. I hope you guys enjoy our pictures!






I went to the Ticket Office on Naval Base San Diego and purchased discounted tickets. I highly suggest you check out their website and see which discounted tickets they offer to local attractions and tours.

This visit was extra special because I was able to share it with Cayden. My Brother came to town to attend with us last weekend. This week we went to the fair with our cousins.

I will be sharing our adventures at our new Duty station as well as how I'm coping with our first deployment with a child.

Operation PCS to San Diego

We are officially in San Diego now. This is not just Americas Finest City but it's also my hometown. I'm super excited to be home for a year! My son finally will get a chance to enjoy all of the places that I enjoyed while growing up here. This means will will be out exploring every chance we get and therefore can share pictures on our blog more often!

My time has currently been spent getting settled in to our new home. We decided to move into Military Housing this time around due to the cost of living being so high in California. Living here is definitely worth every penny! Of course there is still some positive and negatives of us living here.

TripAdvisor is a great website for travelers and people that enjoy exploring their local area as well. The site allows people to review hotels, restaurants, attractions and more. I've been using this site for years. Sometimes most of the reviews are similar and people even include photos. Of course we will have different experiences and this is very normal as well.

I try to regularly post my reviews on this website as well as a few others. I make sure to check this website while planning my trips. When you click on a Business, the website will share the location, hours of operation and business type. If it's an attraction or  museum, then it will specify how much time people normally spend when they go. This information is very useful and helpful.

There's an option to save places to a list. For example, I saved a list titled Las Vegas. I included all the places that I wanted to visit including the hotels that we stayed at. When we woke up each day, I would go down our list of things to do and pick something.

Since my Husband is active duty Military, we have drivers licenses from states that we do not currently live in. It's time for us to renew our Drivers Licenses now. Mines is a GA license and my Husbands is an Alabama License. Both states allow us to renew online if our address is correct on the current license. If you have a new address then you will have to print the renewal form out and provide some proof of being active duty or a spouse.

As we know, sometimes it's hard to get the command to write a letter right away. It could take days and sometimes people wait till the last minute to renew their licenses. I suggest you start the renewal process at least 30 days before the expiration date. This will allow you some time to gather all required documents.

You are not required to get a license in your current state. In the State of Virginia, If you obtain a license, you are considered a resident. Residents have to pay property tax for their vehicles. This is in addition to vehicle registration. Make sure to check the laws in your current state if you plan to obtain a license there.
